The best thermal insulation material so far
Among the many properties of aerogel, its thermal insulation performance is the most mature and widely used. Aerogel is the solid material with the best known thermal insulation effect. The special structure of aerogel can block all pathways of heat transfer, including heat conduction, heat convection, and heat radiation, making aerogel achieve a thermal insulation effect that other materials cannot match.

Aerogel’s thermal insulation principle

Infinitely extend the heat conduction path – reduce heat conduction
The mesh skeleton of aerogel infinitely extends the path of heat conduction, making heat conduction very difficult; and the nanoporous structure forms countless gas-solid interfaces, and heat is difficult to conduct at the gas-solid interface;

Internal air cannot circulate – inhibiting heat convection
The pore size of aerogel (20-50nm) is smaller than the mean free path of air (70nm), which means that the gas molecules in the pores cannot flow freely, thus inhibiting the thermal convection between gas molecules;

The gas-solid interface forms countless thermal barriers to limit thermal radiation
The network skeleton of aerogel forms an “infinite thermal baffle effect” and has a shielding effect on thermal radiation;
